Women’s Equality Day… Or, As We Once Called It, Tuesday | Undershirts For Women
Women’s Equality Day, August 26, 2014 is here! But I wonder: have any of you ever heard of it before? Seems I’ve missed the boat all these years, and I’m guessing I’m not alone.
Turns out Women’s Equality Day marks the 94 years since the 19th Amendment went into effect granting women in the U.S. the right to vote. That truly is something. In fact, it’s amazing it was only 94 years ago. I give thanks to all the women in history who gave their blood, sweat, and tears (and no doubt they did) to improve the lives of others.
I remember the women’s right to vote being a side-bar in high school history class… mentioned, but not really delved-into or celebrated. I’m happy to see the attention paid to it today.. though, again, I never knew there was a yearly commemoration.
That brings me to why I said, “Or, as we once called it, Tuesday” in the header above. 94 years ago, my calling to own my own business would’ve been laughed-at at best. But when I started designing, patenting, and creating our undershirts for women a few years back, my gender was my biggest asset! In fact, it never occurred to me that I couldn’t build a product because I’m a woman! And that’s how today began… as simply another Tuesday as a woman business owner.
The real clincher: When I started, I didn’t even know the first thing about business. I just built Annienymotee (and our Topless Tee line) on gut instincts and the knowledge that our women’s undershirts will save money, clothing, and time… just like (or better than) men’s undershirts have been doing for them.
So today, it’s humbling to remember the sacrifices of women before us…women who could only dream of building a business… women who worked hard to ensure someone like me or you could turn our ambitions and dreams into reality. Hooray for Women’s Equality Day!
And to think I just considered this another Tuesday……
